Mission
To create a knowledge-rich society by collecting books, magazines, newspapers and other sources of knowledge that will help in the development of your intelligence with the aim of improving the knowledge and attitudes of the community living in our local council jurisdiction.
Introduction
The Mawanella Public Library, which was governed in 1960 under the Mawanella Municipal Council, was established as a formal government institution on 01.01.1988 with the establishment of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha. Accordingly, on 31.01.1989, with the first membership, the library was opened to the public and services were started. 2022, which is the main library belonging to the Mawanella local council
It has been rated as a Grade 2 Public Library by the National Library and Documentation Board since September 20. There are currently 8816 registered readers here and the public library which provides services to about two thousand active readers.
In addition, investigative journalism and educational activities are also provided to the readers. Public libraries enriched with a collection of about 27891 books belonging to various subject areas are developed under the readership and annual budget allocations. The following facilities are provided in the library for the convenience of the readers who come to use the library on a daily basis and to provide superior service to them.
1. Sorting books according to div decimal classification.
2. Books are categorized by subject using colors for ease of identification.
3. Providing reading facilities. Increasing the number of books annually.
4. See better service by getting recommendations from Library Advisory Committee

Admission of membership within the local council jurisdiction and outside the local council jurisdiction – Rs.50.00 (for both adults and children)
Library membership renewal fee – Rs 50.00
Readers’ club monthly membership fee – Rs.50.00
Book late fee per day – Rs.5.00
Fee charged for a lost book Department fee – 25% + value of the book
