Right to Information Act - Mawanella Regional Council
Government and government institutions are maintained by people’s tax money. Therefore, the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka passed the Right to Information Act No. 12 of 2016 based on the basic concept that the people should have the right to know the information about the work carried out by the government from the People’s Fund. Article 14A of the Constitution of Sri Lanka also affirms the right of access to information and the people should have the right to request information from government institutions subject to restrictions such as state secrets. Public officials also have a responsibility to provide the public with information about the personal information relevant to the people and the activities carried out with the people’s tax money, and it is also the right of the people to get that information without delay and correctly.
