Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha was established on 01.01.1988 under the Local Council Act No. 15 of 1987 by connecting Mawanella Municipal Council which had 08 divisions, Wakirigala Village Council which had 23 divisions and Aluthnuwara Village Council which had 22 divisions. The total jurisdictional area of the council is 114 square kilometers.
Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha comprising 71 Grama Seva Domains belonging to Mawanella Divisional Secretariat, Sections 171 and 173 of the Divisional Councils Act No. 15 of 1987 and the Regional Councils (Finance and Administration) Rules, 1988 in order to carry out the tasks assigned to this council, the available resources efficiently and Various programs are implemented in various fields for the creation of a prosperous jurisdiction with sustainable development through the provision and promotion of facilities such as public health, public utility services, public roads, welfare services and other facilities within the jurisdiction of the local council.

Introduction to Jurisdiction
Mawanella Regional Council, located in Mawanella Constituency of Kegalle District of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, is a part of Galbada Korale and Kinigoda Korale, which includes Galbada Pattuwa, Tanipperu Pattuwa, Egodapotha Middle Pattuwa, Gannapatuwa Middle Pattuwa, and a part of Tun Province Pattuwa (East).
Bounded by Rambukkana Constituency to the North, Gampala and Aranayaka Constituencies to the South, Yatinuvara Constituency to the East and Rambukkana Constituency to the West, Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha Jurisdiction is comprised of 71 Village Officer Domains. The population of Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha constituency, which elects 40 two people’s representatives, is over 130,000. The scenic Ma Oya bridge, the scenic Bowella waterfall in the Yatimahana area, the historic Sura Saradiel rock in the Utuwankanda area are some of the places that catch the attention of local and foreign tourists.
